Vent for a shipping container used for storage

I have a 40' shipping container (like they ship things from China in) that I use for storage. I was wondering if any one has added something for ventilation? It seems as though it needs something.
Thanks!

At work we have those spinny things
that are kind of like a windmill. Kind
of looks like a balloon. They work
pretty well.

I just bought regular vents with screen backing at Lowes and cut holes in the side wall of the container and put vents in with screws. It works well as I can no longer smell fumes from the gas and oil stored in there. I actually put in 4 vents about 6 inches by 9 inches. They are lovered so put them in with the holes down and no rain will get in,

We use them extensively here in Oz , great things and economical to buy as well . For a shipping container with one of these fitted you would also benefit from some vents place low down in the walls . These will allow an updraught to happen .

those round wind turbines work good.
If you don't want to spend the money,
a homemade pipe/ductwork 'chimney' attached to a near the ceiling hole works well too.
You only need a little height to get a draw going.

I ordered storage container units with turbines installed in the roof, with screens to prevent birds from getting into the container. However, the turbines leaked whenever it rained, so we went to lower vents and upper vents in the walls, properly screened and formed to keep out rain.

You could always put in a dehumidifier. I have a friend that did that to his and it worked great. It would remove upto a gallon a day during the Western Oregon rainy season. He did have to plumb the drain out side of the container. He got tired of dumping the drain on the refer unit....

I have 10-20 footers.

The whirlybird turbines work great but are too much maintenance. When they fail they leak.

I went to 12"x12" louvered vents. I'm in Houston and if you don't vent to equalize temperature they'll sweat terribly on the inside.

Thanks for the responses! I plan on getting some vents the next time I go to Lowes. One question is how did you cut the holes in the walls?

I have a high cube container that has one in each corner as well, but this last summer it got really hot inside. I looked for a vent to add in, but did not come up with one that would fit in the corrugate walls right. Where do you get a vent small enough? I too was thinking that one low and high would work best. I do not want one in the roof.

I would consider one of those "solar power vent" fan systems, mounted on the high side wall and simply glue the power panel on the roof, or along the side with the fan.

I would put a small (4in) piece of PVC pipe somewhere lower to the floor on the opposite end of the container where the fan is located. Put a dryer vent "hood with screen" to keep out intruders.
