I got to spend some seat time using the trackhoe to split wood Sat. afternoon. I got all the little details of operation worked out after a bit and things went great. It works pretty well to pluck blocks from the pile and worked really great after grabbing a block. I can swing to the split pile and split on top of it building a tall pile. Multiple passes on a big block became routine. It worked well to grab and move unblocked limbs and logs also.
I am going to extend the heidth of the wedge and the foot, and build a detachable 4 way for the wedge. The extra heidth will aid in plucking blocks off the ground. The gaurd that I built to protect the cyl and fittings doesn't allow the wedge to grasp smaller blocks easily. The other thing that I am going to do is make the pedal on the trackhoe that controls the splitter cylinder bigger. My left foot and ankle got very tired controlling the cylinder.
Plan to get the extensions welded on and all the bracketry off and painted tomarrow. and then reassembled Tuesday.
I also blew apart a swivel fitting on a hose and had to put another hose I had laying around on it. Need to go to the hyd shop and and have the end replaced. The trackhoe has plenty of pressure. I wish the cycle time was a bit faster on the splitting cylinder, but it is still as fast as it was on the 5130 Maxxum. and it replaces two people who can now help stack the wood.
