Update on Splitter Mtd to Trackhoe

I got to spend some seat time using the trackhoe to split wood Sat. afternoon. I got all the little details of operation worked out after a bit and things went great. It works pretty well to pluck blocks from the pile and worked really great after grabbing a block. I can swing to the split pile and split on top of it building a tall pile. Multiple passes on a big block became routine. It worked well to grab and move unblocked limbs and logs also.
I am going to extend the heidth of the wedge and the foot, and build a detachable 4 way for the wedge. The extra heidth will aid in plucking blocks off the ground. The gaurd that I built to protect the cyl and fittings doesn't allow the wedge to grasp smaller blocks easily. The other thing that I am going to do is make the pedal on the trackhoe that controls the splitter cylinder bigger. My left foot and ankle got very tired controlling the cylinder.
Plan to get the extensions welded on and all the bracketry off and painted tomarrow. and then reassembled Tuesday.
I also blew apart a swivel fitting on a hose and had to put another hose I had laying around on it. Need to go to the hyd shop and and have the end replaced. The trackhoe has plenty of pressure. I wish the cycle time was a bit faster on the splitting cylinder, but it is still as fast as it was on the 5130 Maxxum. and it replaces two people who can now help stack the wood.

Been waiting with anxious breath to see that, since you mentioned it! Looking good. Like it!

Another brilliantly conceived and executed machine ! It would be nice to see it in operation in conjunction with the firewood elevator .

Couple years ago I bought a splitter for the skid steer that sticks straight out in front it. Ever since the first time I used it I thought it should have been mounted sideways so the operator can see what's going on just like your boom mounted unit. After seeing your pictures I am going to buy a mounting plate and convert it, as I should have done two years ago, LOL

Just a thought!
If you can make a pile on the ground, could you make a pile in your trailer and avoid handling until time to stack in the shed? I know you could not get as much on by piling instead of stacking, but if you aren't hauling a long ways might be worth it.

Roy, I could easily load a trailer, but the shed that the pile is partially in, is where it will be stacked. We need to fill this shed for the spring maple syrup season.

Your only a step or two away from not touching your firewood at all! That looks like a handy unit.

The splitter was built as a 3pt vertical unit. I left the hitch bar on thinking it mught be handy to hook out blocks, but it wasan't that handy, so it will come off. The splitter also has to be easily converted back to operate on a tractor 3pt on ocasions when I'm not around to run the trackhoe.

Ahh... I can see now where your top link would connect when the splitter is not attatched to the excavator.

Nice piece of work.
