5/16 Flexible Copper Tubing

I need to replace a 30" length of 5/16 flexible copper tubing on my VAC Case hydraulic system. Hard size to find. Anyone know who stocks this size?

I would think a HVAC supplier would have the odd sized soft copper tubing. We have it at work but only 1/4, 3/8, and half.

Check the pressure rating for the application. Unless it is a low pressure system, copper might not be the correct material no matter what is on it now.

That 5/16 is the size of the fuel line on my CUB. I bet a lot of you guys have used it and don't know it.

I used to get it from NAPA. You may have to buy a 50ft. roll, though.

If you are willing to work with it, you can probably substitute a piece of 5/16" brake line. The new copper/nickel brake line is stiffer than copper, but still possible to work with. If you need it flared on the ends, you will probably need access to a double flaring tool.

Tubing is measured on size to the OD.

Pipe is measured roughly to the ID, the OD is considered a "nominal" measurement. The ID varies with the wall thickness or "schedule".

The 5/16" "soft copper" is not an unusual size. Not very common to see it used on hydraulics. Sure seems would be vulnerable to getting damaged in the environment of a tractor!

What brand of flaring tool do you use on copper/nickel brake tubing that makes a good double flare?

Steve read Glenn F. later posting he is saying he needs 5/16 ID tubing. I know that usually tubing goes by OD on tubing but he is saying he needs ID.

I use the Mastercool hydraulic. The price isn't for the faint hearted but if perfect flares are the need there is no better.

yeah - copper tubing's max pressure rating is usually specified in the hundreds of pounds psi - not thousands!

I assume you know what you're doing - but mentioning it just in case...

JD Seller,

Yes, 5/16 ID is 3/8 OD. Can be bought at almost any hardware store. Can also be bought at any refrigeration supply.

The tractor came factory with copper tubing. It is a non pressurised overflow line. I was able to get what turned out to be 5/16 OD tubing from a good hardware store in town.
