I'm trying to get the impeller & adapter plate of the is Briggs engine to replace the mechanical seal. I don't see any set screws on the crankshaft or anything on the inside of the impeller. It is a Monarch pump Model: NSPG-8B. I have messaged the manufacturer & they have no record of the model, figures. Wondering if anyone has ever taken one of these apart & can give me some advise. Is the impeller pressed on or threaded on?

the impeller screws on the crankshaft. you can either hold the flywheel by taking the engine shroud off, or thread a rope down the spark plug hole to block the piston. rope trick is quicker.

If there's no nut on the end of the shaft in the eye of the impeller it probably threads on, you'll have to unscrew it. Look at it closely and think, as it's running it will be threaded so it tightens, the force of the water pushing on the vanes will cause it to tighten, of course you'll want to go the other way. Might be a bear to get off, good luck.

I got the impeller off & pulled the mechanical deal with the sleeve it is on. I don't know how old the pump is but it was spraying water out the adaptor plate which is why I tore it down. Not sure where to find a seal to replace it. There are no numbers on the old seal.

I used to stock a lot of seals, but if it was an odd ball sometimes the guy at the local electric motor repair shop would have it or could order it.

pump seals are like wiper blades or tires. WW Grainger and McMaster-Carr both have quite a variety, sure there's others out there, you just need to measure and figure out what fits and meets the chemical resistance to what you're pumping. If nothing else see if there's a commercial pump distributor in your area thay can size and quote a seal
