Clothes Dryer Not Working

Maytag over capacity dryer isn't starting. Not even a buzzing from the motor. I just purchased this second hand about 3 months ago. No issues until recently. Not wanting to start throwing parts at it, Can someone help? I'm a dryer novice and don't want to buy a new one if I can avoid it. It is an electric with a there prong plug. I can try and be more specific but I don't know what other info is needed. Picture is the tag from the door.

Don't know about Maytag, but look on the rear panel/cover as most Kenmore had a schematic diagram.... a starting point, which without you are running blind.

Two easiest things to check. Find the 30 amp circuit breaker for the dryer in your panel, turn it all the way off and then back on again. If that doesn't do it, unplug from wall, take off the small access panel in the back of the dryer where the cord goes through and make sure the connections are all secure.

I think it is the thermal fuse. I just by passed it to see if it would work and I got it to heat up and spin. It was kind of working but was shutting off mid cycle. Also found out the door switch has been by passed. I will be replacing that as well. Thanks for the suggestions.

Usually when a thermal fuse fails, there is a reason. That it is shutting off mid cycle also points to an overheating condition. Could be a thermostat, or lint clogged air duct, damaged fan, etc.

If you don't have an electrical meter, you better got one and learn how to use it to measure current and resistance. That will go a long way towards determining where a problem is.

Buy a cheap digital multimeter, then open the dryer up and find the schematic. It's probably inside the control panel. Since the start switch isn't working, I'd start there: see if there's power to the switch, if not trace backwards. If there's power to the start switch, trace forward.

As someone else said, the thermal fuse is a common failure point in dryers, both gas and electric, and usually indicates a blockage in the vent. You'll have to buy the fuse and high limit switch together, since they don't want you to replace the fuse only to have it fail immediately due to a bad limit switch.

Check your door switch. This is the common problem when they don't start. Very simple check is to jumper it and see if dryer starts. You can also use a meter set ohms. Disconnect it and see if you get continuity in the closed position. Another option is to go to partselect.com and put in your modle number, this site will tell you the most common failure and has a video on how to check it and replace it.

Looks to be a gas dryer. Likely the door switch.

Cheap part, easy fix. You can also bypass it to see if that's the culprit.

Plenty of "how to" info on the internet on this topic.

Didn't see the wire and breaker size. Electric I am now assuming.

Door switch still the usual suspect.
