99 ford car brake lines...huh?

All,

I have yet to figure this out, but have a hung-up caliper on the front disc brakes. The brake hose seems to be screwed/piped right into the caliper, no banjo bolt with copper washers, but, rather a pipe threaded looking steel line right into the caliper.

Does a fellow use something to seal the connection? How to take it apart?

How hard do I make the new connection? Torque the connection? This is a new one on me.

I apologize up front for a limited description, just never ran afoul of this type of connection before...

From your description, I would say that the hose that is screwed into the caliper has a copper washer under it something like a banjo fitting would use. Threads are not meant to be sealed. Seal is made at the connection to the caliper with either a flare type or gasket type. Tightening is common sense - meaning it wants to be good and snug, but don't bear down too hard on it. Without a picture, that is the best that I can offer from personal experience.

Nope, it's definitely not a banjo type connection. I was trying to take a picture, but failed.

I am saying the metallic portion of the brake hose, roughly 5/16 inch OD and roughly 2 inches of metal, screws directly into the caliper, not a flange, no washer, nothing.

Thing has me looking allover the internet for the proper description. Still perplexed, but thanks,

Maybe this will be better for a description. The long end threads directly into the caliper, just wonder what seals it?

Ford has been known to use that type of deal it uses a sealing washer as as jimg.allentown replied... Why would this be a surprise
not all brake hydraulic fittings use a banjo connection with sealing washers....

I am going to get a new hose, rebuilt caliper and attachment bracket, and even perhaps take a pictre of the replacement items, camera willing.

The mystery-to-me will be revealed, and just maybe I'll see and understand what you're attempting to tell me.

OK as usual Y'all make us dig and don't provide needed info...

In the repair info it makes no mention of a sealing washer so it looks like the tip of the line makes the seal... ,

It says to tighten 115 in lbs... me, it gets good and tight :wink: I crank'er down....
 
I think if you look directly at the end of the fitting at the end of the hose you will find that it is tapered, much like an inverted flare fitting.

That is where it seals.

Just did a '97 K2500 Chevy, and that's how it was made... no "banjo fitting", no copper washer, just a tapered sealing area.

(Looking into the attaching hole in the caliper, I'll bet you will see the mating "male" part of the junction.)

Here's some pictures. I am going to try it. Even the Ford dealership parts man said there's no listed sealing washer.

The hose threads in about 3/8 inch. That leaves the steel part of th hose sticking out about an inch or so.
