What Is It?

I have had these floating around my shop for a few years and would like to know what they are for. I thought someone would eventually come by and tell me what they were but no luck yet. They are made of maple and are about 6 inches long and two inches wide. They have sharp blades in them.

They look like tools for hand cutting grooves into worn tyres to try and get a little more life out of them . These were fairly common in the days of solid rubber tyres and rubber rimmed steel wheels . The groove didn't always go along the length of the tread . Often it was cut at a bias to increase traction .

Thanks Charles! That is good to know! i thought
they must have been used on flexible material
because of the blade layout!!

Most insulation here is fibre wool and more recently polyurethane panel .
