Worm gear repair

A bearing went out and allowed this gear to slip and get worn down. This is the lift for the unload auger on a grinder/mixer. It gets very little use and I would be surprised if it turns a dozen revolutions a year. So I welded it up with mig then used a die grinder to clean it up and a flap wheel to finnish up the outside.

I saw that done to the steering worm on a Farmall 100 back in the late 80's. Still being used.

Very Good! You have a good frame of mind when looking at a wear problem. So many think, What am I going to do now? Good job!

Do we need a new category? "Cheap like me."
I welded up two spindles. I turned them at work. Took about 45 minutes ea. Replacements were $75 ea.
I prefer to re build the original equipment and not buy replacement parts.
I am cheap, but what do you learn when you buy the part?
