Carpal Tunnel

Cuts down on the recovery time if you have them done at the same time . Having both hands inactive forces you to take it easy and rest . But ,and it is a big [size=18:8237a6a603] But [/size:8237a6a603] , it makes it very difficult to use toilet paper in the way it was designed to be used

I had mine done separately, but in retrospect, I could have done them both at the same time. Other than being careful with the incision itself, my use of my hands was limited very little. I was making chords on my guitar with my left hand by the third day.

I had one hand done a couple of years ago. Never skiped a beat. Had about a 1/2 inch incison with 3 stitches. Dr said I could do what ever I felt comfortable doing. I have seen incisons that are in the palm of the hand which result in a long recovery.

I did. When I was trying to decide whether to have both done at the same time or one after the other, the surgeon told me that of his patients who wished they had done it the other way, it was about 10 to 1 in favor of having both done. I certainly felt that way. Also, I don't remember being incapacitated in the least. When I asked the surgeon how much I could do, he told me that my forearms and wrists would let me know. I had the surgery on a Friday, and the following Tuesday evening I spend 90 minutes with a 9" angle grinder on a piece of metal sculpture.

My carpal tunnel syndrome was pretty bad. My right hand was essentially asleep for a year before I had the surgery, my left hand not quite that bad. The surgery was 100% successful, in my view. I regained full, painless use of both hands, and the symptoms have not recurred in the ten or twelve years since then. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but I've talked to other people whose results haven't been as good.

Good luck,

Stan

Yes I had both done at the same time two years ago. One deductible less recovery time .No problems at all. I was able to do any thing I wanted or felt like doing as long as it did not envolve lifting more than ten pounds , jerking or pulling for six weeks. Both hands were fully bandaged for one day.Had it done in Houston as day surgery. Would have it done again in a heartbeat. What amazed me I had absolutly no pain.

Had my right hand done about 15 years ago. The next day I was on a new shed nailing down metal roofing with that hand wearing a brace.
It came back a few years ago. I have it on both sides. Will never do the surgery again.
My youngest son can't sleep at night because of both hurting.
He is going to have the surgery.

I had my left one done about 30 years ago. Checked into the hospital about 7am, they did the operation about 9am, and I went home after lunch. It was healed within a week or so. I wouldn't hesitate a second to have it done again.

I've never had a problem with my right hand. They always say if you have the problem on one hand, sooner or later you'll have it in the other hand. But--I've heard an injury or trauma can bring it on, as well as repetitive movements. I dumped a motorcycle once in Japan and came down hard on the palm of my left hand on a blacktop road. I've always wondered if that didn't trigger it in my left hand.

I guess insurance copays, etc., would influence whether you had it done both hands at once.

There is something called "Active Release Technique" that is essentially a target massage therapy. Typical surgery only addresses the symptom, inflammation of the carpal tunnels. It doesn't address the scar tissue around the muscles that has caused them to be inflamed in first place. The recovery time is much shorter than surgery.

My wife used the treatment this past spring to take care of her plantar fasciitis in both feet and carpal tunnel like symptoms in one hand. It took 1 visit a week for 8 weeks, 20 minutes per visit.

It may not work for everyone, but if you are contemplating surgery it might be worth looking into first. Good luck!

20 yr ago I had a lot of trouble with arms going to sleep dr wanted me to try braces with metal stripes in them they stopped 95% of problems They are expensive but shure are a blessing

I wouldn't do both hands at once. I had the surgery twice on my right hand in my 20s, cutting meat for living is hard on the hands.

I had mine done wish I had it done 5 years earlier, Charles is Aus is right the one major problem. Butt you get over it in about a week.

I had both done about five years ago, had wrap on each until the second day, incision was about 3/4" long, had band-aid on for few more days. Was limited to lifting 10 lbs. I think for four or five weeks. Immediate relief and haven't had a problem since.

The nerves in the carpal tunnel are the same ones I'm your neck. A joint out of place in your neck can pinch the nerve and cause the symptoms in your hands and wrists.
A good chiropractor fixed mine.
