Home made Trash Compactor

I have a small shed for keeping trash in and in the winter time I can keep about 2 months worth of trash bags before a trip to the landfill. In the summer time I can't do that because it draws bears! I was noticing that trash compactors are outrageously expensive at $500 to over $1000. Anyone ever built a homegrown one with tractor hydraulics?

I always thought about using my log splitter to crush aluminum cans with. Just attach a big
square plate where the splitting wedge is and build a square container to hold the cans while
being crushed.

Just never got around to it.

How about baling your trash bags. Using something like an OLD stationary baler. Just think you could make 100 pound bales. Easy to stack.

Being a mechanic in the garage industry I
can tell you a bit about trash. When a
compactor truck breaks down if it is a
repair that is major as in more than a day
or two then we have to unload it, often
jump hydraulic pressure to it from another
truck or it will stink and be covered in
maggots in no time. The small box trucks
that they hand load bags into can sit much
longer, even a week or more usually with
little smell or creatures as the trash
isn't such a compacted blended mess. So I
don't think compaction is what you want to
do

I have one I gave my wife for some occasion she was not as impressed as i was  I still have it , it works great barely used  It can be brought...
