Went to Lowes this morning...

Received a couple 20% discount cards from Lowes last week. Gathered a small box of hardware to give to my nephew on the farm for his birthday next month; the pile wasn't very big to get over the $50 required to use the discount card. He lives so far from towns that stock hardware, so this will save him time and gas.

Don't know how I made the list; the cards just started coming in the mail about 5 years ago and show up about this time every year. It's one of the mailing lists that I like to be on! It is only good for about a 2-week time period, so I wait for it to arrive each year.

Just fill out the little form at the register and get the "Lowe's card." It is NOT a credit card and costs you nothing. It really doesn't do much for you except if you buy carpet or paint, Lowe's computer will store the color codes for you. As far as I can tell I got on the mailing list simply by getting that free card.

I was in the Michigan National Guard for 4 years of which 6 months was active duty. I have never felt like a veteran. But the State of Michigan considers me one, and there are some advantages in the state. So I had veteran added to my drivers license.
Also Lowes gives me 10% discount, they have asked me if I wanted their card? I asked them if the card would show that I am a veteran? They said no, so I said no, I didn't want another card to carry.
Beginning January 1 this year Lowes in Florida no longer honors my "veteran" on my drivers license.
