brake resetting gauge

This appears to be the proper name for the tool that looks like a large caliper to adjust drum brakes to the drum before installing the drum. I have never used one before and wonder if it would be best to use one ? Right now I am working on the rear drums on the 1981 F350.
Anyone have one to sell that will do 12" drums ?

that caliper is for measuring the wear on drums before they get turned so they are within the spec.you dont need that to install the drum just adjust the adjuster so the drums just slide on and done. the self adjusters will do the rest when you back up as they adjust the shoes when needed.

Know exactly what you are talking about. Used to have one when I was in the business. Found it to be not worth the trouble. Just do what others have said and adjust so the drum will just slide on and off.

Never used one in the fifty plus ears of doing brake jobs . Put the new parts in stuff the drums on and adjust the brakes as you still have to adjust them after using the dadgum contraption any way.

I found one on Amazon. I had to change the drum parking brades on a 3/4 ton dodge truck and it was impossible to get to the adjuster on one side. Thank you to the design engineer that did that. The only way I could adjust it was by trial and error. I finally bought one of those calipers to make this job easier.
