Bringing home a big tool

Hyster, weighs 6 tons, in San Diego 500 miles from home. The LA smog sucks, but at least I am out of the smoke for a few days

At least if the truck craps out, you can load it on the trailer, lift the trailer with the Hyster, and head on hone!

It has been so long ago I do not remember it's exact size, but I used to drive one about that size where I worked at our telecom ware house. It was a good old rig, but had a lot of oil leaks that we could not get them to fix. Just a few weeks after the big Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska some of the upper management from district came down for a tour, and sometime between the walk though by local management and the big shot tour a sign appeared on the side of the Hyster that read "Contel Valdez". Nothing was ever said about it, but a week later the oil leaks and brakes were repaired.

It is a mid 70s 6 ton Miller. Last fall it got all new brakes, bearings, drums, wheels, 10 ply bias tires, 12k winch, leaf springs, rewired and converted from gravity tilt to full hydraulic, with a new 4 foot foredeck. Last week it got new decking and all welds were inspected. I was told the Hyster was 5 tons, but when Imgot there the guynsaid it weighs 6 tons.. With the weight of the trailer in its load rating I may be a ton over, but that is well within the designers safety factor and I dont have to go through scales with a pickup doing the towing.

It towed well 100 miles from LA to San Diego, and in a week or so whe I go home I will see how it does on the Grapevine on that 500 mile run back into the Sierras

(quoted from post at 18:06:15 09/20/15) what year dodge? Bill

I have had it a month, an upgrade from an 85 F250 4x4 diesel.
This is a 92 W350 LE, , one ton dually 4x4, diesel, 5 speed. I adjusted the pump a bit and woke up the engine, my primary use for the truck is hauling, not commuting. I have removed 20 Lbs of bad wiring and am halfway done rewiring it my way.
This truck has 3 times the engine, and twice the brakes and suspension as the old one. I got a deal on it, sold my Ford for enough to pay for the truck and a new set of Firestones.
