2000 Chevy dash lights fail

Recently there was a post on a late 90's Chevy PU whee the dash lights failed and caused all sorts of problems. I asked the poster for more info on the location of the wiring that caused the problem but he either missed it or didn't want to answer. Anyone know jut where the problem area is? I have the cover tot he steering wheel off and can see lots of wiring, but I'm not sure where to look for the bad connections.

Was that the post from old Lou./ Wisconsin? Ignition switch and harness, had to replace one on my 97 Jimmy, dash warning lights would come on and engine would stall just for an instant and then work fine for a couple weeks, wild guess fixed it but those switches can cause all different kinds of problems.

Brett,
below is a link to pictures and how to diagnose a bad ign harness switch. Contacts become corroded, so elec connections won't be made. You have to clean the contacts, (not shown in link) in the ignition box. There is a metal washer on the front side that has to come loose first, then 4 plastic clips made into the top of the box (which is the lid) that have to come off. Under that is 6 springs that ride on cantilever connector that corrode. Take the clips out and use scotch brite pad to clean the ends, both sides, and reaasemble. It should take care of the problem. There is a special socket that is needed to remove the box from the steering column, we bought one at Oreilly's it fits 1995 and our 99 GMC Yukon and probably newer, but we can't say for sure, Oreilly would know..

harness replacement here

I had to replace the light stitch in my 06 last year. Dimmer switch went kaput and had no dash lights.
Go to youtube and search for speedometer replacement on a Silverado. Shows how to take the dash frame off and get to the switches and speedo.
Very easy to do.
I bought the switch from rockauto.com. I think it was $30 or so. Take a small screw driver and it snaps out. Wires plug in the back then snap the new one in.
Took all of 10 minutes.

my 2000 chevy 2500's dash lights very occasionally go off, then come back on & stay on for weeks, then blink off & on again. Did this happen to you or did they just go out & stay off?

Thanks to all for the info.

2x4- on mine they just started going off intermittently. Hit a bump or put it in reverse and they'd come back on...or go off again. Now they are off altogether- all lights, gauges, speedo, etc. Truck won't shift right or go into 4wd sometimes. Need that for a field/plow truck.
