Cutting Torch Popping

My cutting torch wants to pop, sounds like a machine gun, when you add the oxygen. I believe it is a Harris Torch. Would the problem morel likely tend to be in the tip or something in the torch assembly itself. The cutting head screws onto the same handle that the welding head attaches to. Just a hobby welder.
Thanks for any and all help,
Bill

probably a bad seat on the cutting tip. dont use it till you get it fixed, the torch is burning back into the torch body.

Oxygen is leaking into the fuel side either where the head screws onto the handle or where the tip screw onto the head. Both have metal face seals so it's probably a little piece of trash on there somewhere that's keeping it from sealing. I have the same type of torch.

(quoted from post at 11:45:35 09/11/15) if you dont already have them, put flashback arrestors on the torch
ice for safety, but those won't fix his problem. Among the 3 of us, I believe he has been told at least twice, where the problem lies.

Check all the fittings and make sure they are clean and tight. As said sounds like a leak over some place or your handle it going bad have had that happen before and replaced the whole handle assembly

If it happens when you are cutting a thick piece it may be your tip is too small or your oxygen pressure can be turned up more.

A lot of good suggestion below. I would adjust line pressure to at least 5 psi on acetylene for an 0 tip, I find 7 works better. On the oxygen side I would run 30 psi maybe a little more if you are cutting thicker stuff. There is a chart giving suggested pressures for different size tips, might want to google that.
