Every few years I pull out pond weed by hand using a hook on a long pole. Does anyone use another way of getting this weed out of water? Ponds are 5-8 ft deep. Been thinking an old dump rake (horse hay rake) may work if I had one. Thanks

Sterile grass carp have kept mine clean for years. Before I got them, it was impossible to fish because of weeds.

Some pond weeds are good some are bad so depends on the weed you have. I have what is called Water Crest in my pond and I'll make sure to leave it there but then again it is a good edible weed.
But as Richard said you can stock your pond with a few grass crap and they will take care of the weeds for you

Go on fleabay and buy some copper sulfate. Very pretty blue color and you need maybe a pound per acher. I mix it in a hand pump sprayer and walk around the shore.

I've got a pretty bad weed/algae problem in my pond. I looked at getting a weed rake they sell for the purpose but they're pricey. I got an aluminum landscape rake that works pretty well and is cheaper. As for the grass carp, depending upon what state you're in, they may be illegal or you may need a permit. I know they're illegal to put in a pond/lake here in Michigan:

"Many times, they ask if they can use grass carp to solve their excessive aquatic plant growth problem. The answer is “no,” as they are an illegal species to possess in the state of Michigan, except under a Michigan Department of Natural Resources permit for education or research purposes. This is often confusing to Michigan residents as the neighboring states of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio allow the use of grass carp under certain conditions with the proper permit" (from the MSU Extension website)

I have a small pond, 1/2 acre or so, and 5-8 ft deep. We had pretty bad weeds until a few years ago when I put a small flock of 6 or 7 ducks on it. The ducks, Khaki Campbells, have kept it clean ever since.

I now it's not what you're asking for, but...
Fluridone for the pondweed...pricey, but I use it every other year.

Copper sulfate for algae as needed.

Richard G specified STERILE grass carp which I expect means that it can't reproduce, because it must be a hybrid.

Yes, I saw that but State of Michigan doesn't seem to care if they can reproduce or not.

Now, that doesn't mean I couldn't go somewhere, buy some STERILE carp and put them in my pond. It is not very accessible, not visible from a road and I doubt the DNR would be willing to send someone out, fish it to find out if I've got one in there.... all on a hunch, because, obviously, I wouldn't be advertising it.
