Antique Drill Press?

My old pal gave me a drill press he'd had buried in his shop behind some stuff for 20 years. He hit the switch and it started up and ran. We loaded it on my truck and I brought it home to my shop. I knocked the dirt off and oiled places that seemed to need oil including the motor shaft ends. The part that raises the drill head/chuck up and down only go about 2 inches and looks like it should move more like 6 inches. Also, the motor started smoking as I drilled a test plate. I think the motor got full of mud dobbers and I can take care of that. I may be able to get the travel stuff apart and maybe even fix it. That being said, I can't find a name plate on it anywhere. On the upper casting I see a "DP 220" but that's meaningless to me. Anyone out there recognize this? The switch is an add on. Thanks, gm

It's old, but not an antique in my thinking. The antique ones hung on a wall and I had to crank them by hand.

We had one of those when I was a kid. There was a ratchet that advanced the bit downward.

I have one bench top just like that that was my uncles. I was told he bought it in the late 30's.

I have a floor model similar to that and the mice like to crawl into the housing and build nests which get into the down feed. I would look through that hole in the top and see what's in there.

No problem--happy to help! Those old drill presses are definitely a handy thing for any shop, and I'm sure you could repower it if necessary and still be money and utility ahead over the current crop of cheapies.

That is a Delta. I have one that looks just like it. Mine has the belt cover. A very good old press.

I consider this one an antique. It is wired for electric though. Used it about 2 hours today.
