cast iron slillet seasoning...,lard+grill..

All,

I searched and did not find my request from a few years back, but someone on here told me how to season a cast iron skillet.

Well, I've slept since then so this is a brand new adventure, again.

If I remember right get the grill going, smear lard on the skillet, set it on the grill grates, and let it smoke away.

Please let me know if I am on the right track. I am about to light up the briquettes and get it going.

Thanks,

D.

Many ways to season a pan like that. Me I NEVER use lard but vegetable oil or butter. You can do it that way of put it on the burner of a stove and put oil in it and heat it up and coat the whole inside of the pan or put i t in the over and do that same thing. Plus probably many other ways

Have done this with a couple of new woks for my wife. You have the right idea. DO IT OUTSIDE if you can. If I remember right we used vegetable oil and swirled it around some with steel wool.

I think the directions were to keep it cooking till the oil was pretty much gone.

I put mine in the gas grill at 500 degrees with a couple slabs of fat back inside. Go out every now and then and stick a fork in a piece and rub it down. Turn it off before the grease is all the way gone and you're done.
