David Shaeffield in Fort Gibson Ok. at 888-478-4558 or 918-478-4558 are both none working numbers now. I also tried his name and nothing. So I am back to needing a source for the rods. The welding supply houses in Dubuque do not have anything.

JD Seller,
I do not know if this is exactly what you are looking for,but take a look and see if it will work. They list carbon and graphite rod and will make it to your specs.
HTH,

JD, another source is McMaster-Carr in Chicago. They have both carbon fiber (expensive) and graphite rods on stock. google McMaster-Carr, click on raw materials, graphite and see price list

I have wrenched for 41 years and still at it... As far as any impacts IR can not be beat... I can get 10 years out of a IR impact and maybe 5 are so from IR air ratchet (good ones not a Home improvement IR special)

NEVER buy a snap on impact they are junk and they ram it up your arse to do a simple repair... BTDT and NEVER got good service from a snapper air tool... Anyone that thinks a snapper air tool is gods gift has never used a good air tool...

I like my snap on tools but don't even think about selling me a snapper air tool...

Think what you are looking for is carbon arc or gouging rods. Copper coated carbon. We used them in the welding shop in the days before plasma cutters. Radnor still makes them. They come anywhere from 3/16" to 1". Carbon lamp rods are the same thing, think back to the old movie theater days before video. You could always the the smoke from the projector room. Do you have an Airgas near you? They carry them. Ebay has some, probably amazon too.

A machinist I watch on youtube just used a one inch carbon - he got it from McMaster Carr and I presume they have other diameters. They are sold for the purpose you described.

Edited to add this price list from McMaster site - and to note that these are machinable so can be turned down to the size you require.

We had a few 1/2" at the farm, but I haven't seen them in the last 40-50 years so they are probably gone now.

JD what size are you looking for and how many? I have some I could let you get. 989 413 5684 I'm in MI so would have shipping on them. I think these are about 3/8" or 7/16"

I am needing a 1" diameter one. I found a solid copper one that I ordered this morning. I am not sure if pure copper rod is better than the carbon rod wrapped with copper or not. I guess I will find out later these week. LOL Thanks for the replies. I still have not found ones like the old ones I have used.

JD not sure what diameter you need but an old car battery has a carbon rod inside it about 1" x 4" hope this helps
