Does anybody make a bench grinder with cast iron tool rests? The stamped steel tool rests are junk. Did find a DeWalt with cast aluminum tool at Lowes. This is the best I have found.

Bench grinders seem to be a product sold on price not quality or features.

Quality grinders are ridiculously expensive! But they also hold up better, get what you pay for... You can find good used grinders on Ebay and Craigslist occasionaly.

The tool rest doesn't necessarily need to be cast. They're easily made from steel, welded up out of 1/4" plate, can be designed to meet any need you may have. Much better than the thin sheetmetal.

Year ago I bought an 8" Jet # 577102 grinder and it is a pretty good grinder. ALso checkout the used market, big ole H-D pedestal grinders don't bring much money, just be careful they are not 3 phase.

The Linishall grinders appear to be well made and they have cast rests, a light etc. I have the 8" and it's pretty solid. Designed in New Zealand for a company there (made for them in China).
It was the most solid I could find without big spending.
Comes with medium and coarse wheels. I changed one to a s/s wire wheel.

I like my 8 inch dewalt. I think delta has a cast tool rest too with a grove in it to sharpen drill bits.
