Hello all. A newbie here to the forum. Been hanging around the site for awhile, but decided to join up. I want to change the gear oil in the final drives and transmission of my ATC crawler. My manual says "only use 80/90 SAE straight mineral oil. DO NOT use multi-purpose or hypoid type." What oil is available in USA that is "straight mineral oil"? I do not want to ruin any internal parts by using the wrong gear oil. Better to just leave the old stuff in there.

used to be NAPA 65-205 part number.
might have changed, but if you ask an experienced worker there he will know what you mean.
poster, if it's like my Cletrac crawler, yes it is needed.
steering with internal brake bands, they say the modern hypoid gear oil additives will make them slip.
Thanks to all. NoNewParts, you are correct. Like your Cletrac, this tractor has the wet brake bands and from what I have researched, the new gear oils have additives that will make the bands too slippery to work properly. I will try NAPA, then take a ride to Tractor Supply to see what they have.

I doubt TSC will have it. I have about 4 gallons of Shell R&O mineral oil left. I needed it for my old Scout trans. I had a hard time finding it. Got it from the maintenance guy at a local paving co.

What you need is called GL-1 gear oil. NAPA, CARQUEST or most anyone else can get it as long as you use the proper term. Computers are picky. LOL
