So my wife thought she needed Windows 10 for work, she actually needed Windows Office 10, and updated her computer. Neither she nor I can make heads nor tails out of W 10. It just stinks. Can you alter W10 to look and work like W 8 or should we just go to a previous restore point and then dump W 10? She wants the traditional icons, etc. W 10 doesn't seem to have. Of course I can't even find the control panel to find a restore point at this time....

I've never had Windows 8, every computer I use is on 7. I haven't tried an upgrade to 10 yet, but when I do I'll need 10 Pro, however I get it.

You might try a system restore to a previous point while you think it over and consider your options.

I have a computer in my shop that is on 7, but not connected to the 'Net. I might bring it to the house, set it up in my office, and use it for a guinea pig before I try upgrading my desktop, laptop, and my wife's desktop. My wife's relationship with computers is adversarial on a good day, and she doesn't accept change very well, so upgrading her computer might be a challenge.

Brett WHAT ever you do , back it up ! loaded windows 10 without a back up disk and it was not fun ,Seagate is a good one

Have not ventured to windows 10, and would advise against it. Hearing several things, like it automatically takes all of your pictures from your "my pictures" directory and makes a scrolling screen saver, some people who were dumb enough to have pictures they did not really want everyone to see found out the hard way.... Yup, some of those "private" pictures scrolling on their screen when they got up in the morning while their wife was watching their monitor.... Also just heard this morning, windows 10 automatically scans all your software, and if it thinks you are using a pirated software, even if it really is legal and yours just old, it will disable the apps until you pay to get it "legal". I am not going there. There is more than enough dictatorship going on in this world, if I do not want to upgrade my software I should not have to do so just to pay for some software executives yacht....

I run Win8 on my laptop with a free product called Classic Shell. It makes the start menu look like Win7. It boots to the desktop and I even added a icon from windows 7 to have the start button look the same. I never see the Metro crap on it. With this product, it works fine.

Brett 4207- Stay with W10 and learn where functions are now.
1. Control Panel: click on the lower left windows icon and you will see the control panel, or Click the windows key on the keyboard and then the X key and you will see the Control Panel,
2. Settings-click on the lower left windows icon for settings, click on Privacy, turn everything off or set the functions you want on.
3. Task Bar-click on the lower left windows icon for settings, click on Apps, then right mouse click and click Pin to taskbar.

Once you get familiar with W10, it is great. You can always google what you are looking for to learn more.

No thanks. We were perfectly happy with Win 98 and then XP. I don't need or want fancy and techie, I want simple and reliable. Change may be wonderful for those that just have to have the latest smart phone, but for us it's just a pain.

hat are the big advantages of windows 10 supposed to be. Other than free, I haven't heard why to switch. I also understand that the user will have to pay extra for some things that have up to this operating system been free. In some instances a monthly fee for games and such that were part of the standard package in the past. As always some existing programs will not work with the system. I should have said up front that I have not seen or used this new system. One thing that I have learned over the years is that nothing is truly free. Some things in life are touted as free and turn out to be nothing but a rip off. Microsoft is in the business of making money, pure and simple. That's not a bad thing, just keep in mind no company gives anything away without a motive.
