Gas can vent

I don't know why I hadn't thought of this but my brother saw it somewhere so I tried it. It made for an easy vent on the new gas cans.

Hello Brendon,

Yep! 1/2 in. Hole and all US well. I take the core out for even more air. It works for me!

That's clever. May the bird of paradise fly up the lawyer's nose that sued Blitz and caused gas can mayhem.

I did the same thing on 4 cans I have but I used all metal truck valves with epoxy instead of rubber seal so the gas won't melt it.

been doing that for some time but I use the shorter lawn mower stems. Thanks for passing the idea along.

My son the mechanic told me that the rubber tubeless stems would soften if I used them in my gas cans, but so far they haven't. Been a couple years or so - time will tell.

I did that with several red plastic 5 gallon cans several years ago. No problem with the rubber softening.

I have done that also and then found you can get the proper little yellow vents from Ebay for a pittance. I ordered several in case they too are outlawed later. TDF

(quoted from post at 17:23:55 08/14/15) I use the little brass drain valves for air compressors.

I just put a screw in mine. One that I can push down in the hole and can pull it out with finger.

That looks good. But how do you install them? If I remember correctly they are installed through the wheel rim hole from the inside and pulled through with the special tool since the inside part is larger then the stem part. What am I missing? Need a little more detail on installation please. TIA

1/2 inch hole. Then I fished a wire through that hole to the larger hole. Take the guts out of the stem and put the wire through it. Bend a hook to hold it. Pull it through the hole and screw on valve stem tool and pull it tight.

I buy s filler kit that does away with the stupid EPA spill system things and do away with all the bull

If you go back by where they keep the cans at TSC they have a neat kit, for water jugs only of course, LOL. Contains a spout you can use plus the vent.

You can get these from Amazon for around $0.80 each. They are like what used to come on fuel cans.

I saw that idea on here as well. I did the same thing with metal valve stems. They are more rugged. Plus they will not dissolve or soften in the gas.

I purchased about 10 of those off ebay, and put in all the jugs I have that did not have a vent. Works well, just a half inch hole and snap in.
