Palm Nailer

Had occasion to buy one today. Nailing up new joist hangers under a deck over a walk-out basement. 2x10 joists on 12" centers under a hot tub. No access for a hammer, and I can't see s**t with my bifocals working over my head either.

Face nailing the hangers to the header not bad, but toenailing through the joist just wasn't happening with a hammer. Got a cheapo Ridgid palm nailer at Deep Homo and [i:654c4848f0]voila![/i:654c4848f0], problem solved. Start the nail in the slot, tap it once with a hammer to hold it in place, set the nose of the palm nailer over it, press down and BRAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPP!, done!

Yet another tool to add to the "Why didn't I buy one of those 20 years ago" list.

Dang, Fawteen, I coulda swore you DID buy one of them about ten years ago. Mebbe I need a new rememberer.

Ya know, I've been having the same nagging thought, but I know pretty much where every tool I own is and I can't put my hands on it.

I know I was all fierce to get one and I can't remember why I didn't.

Good deal! Glad you like it. I have started to buy one of those for several years. Still on the list. My hands can hardly hold the hammer handle for more than there or four pole barn nails. Then three or four at a time is about all I drive anymore. I started using more construction screws rather than nails where I can. Most of my nailing is making fence corner post braces. Those would be a hundred yards or more from power. I have thinking of building a couple skidding shelters for the little horses. That might be a reason to buy one.

I bought one to help put up some engineered beams in a restaurant my sister is building. It went thru about 200 or so nails like butter. Really saved my butt!

My Bostitch framing gun came with an extra tip for nailing hanger brackets.

Was real nervous using it at first, but after a few turn-my-head away shots - found that it works great. Even easier and quicker than the palm nailers.

It's got a cone shape that fits right into the hole on the bracket - pretty hard to miss.
