Yep, I keep an old hoe in the back of my truck for the same thing. Have unloaded a load of brick without getting up in the truck.
I have to have a short stool to get up on the tailgate.

We always called them "grub hooks".....used them to dig potatoes mostly.....Now that I'm gettin' old(er) I might have to stick one in the back of my truck also. LOL

My uncle who farms with us is 67 or 68 and he has
carried a small rake as long as I can remember. He
also carries a pistol grip style set of tongs(like
people use to pick up trash off their lawn mower) so
he can grab things out of his toolbox without having
to get in the bed

Nice long handle too.

It should grab just about anything out of the back of your truck.

I do not have a quad but do have a 52 8N with Sherman combination transmission (12 speed) that I use as my quad.

I keep a carryall with 4' bottom and front boards and 2' plywood side boards on it at all times.

Inside the carryall are two or 3 chainsaws of various sizes, a chain with grab hooks on both ends for use with the chain hook that is always on the swinging drawbar beneath the differential, and a rake, shovel, hoe, and 5 prong pitch fork. All of the wooden handle hand tools are secured to an eye bolt with a bunge strap around the handles.

The hoe is ideal for removing the dirt crown around trees before I cut them off off at ground level so that I do not hit the stumps with my bush hogs (set as low as possible without scalping).

The pitch fork is handy for restacking brush piles that I regularly burn.

Everything gets a bit harder each year.

As a kid I'd use a four prong one to empty chopped hay from a wagon onto a blower on it's way to the hay loft. Kept it away from my homocidal sibling.
