Do any of you use SeaForm in your small engines gas tank or crankcase. I've been thinking of adding some to my two standby portable generatros. Is this stuff any good, or is it just another snake oil? Do you lrave it in your crankcase between oil changes?

I have been using it for close to 25 years now and I think it works. Many on here will tell you it is nothing but a little of this and that mixed up well fine I still have fewer problems when I use it. I only use it in the gas not the crankcase. I see that they are listing it for use in the crankcase but I have not use it there.

I have used it for years. I just pulled my narrow front B Allis Chalmers out of the weeds that had been setting for several years. It had a coupla gallons of gas in the tank. I only used it to take to tractor pulls and knew when I quit pulling that it would set for a while. I put a half can of Seafoam in the tank and the other half in the crankcase. I drained the gas out and it did not have the normal sour smell. I ran it a few minutes after adding the Seafoam and shut off the sediment bowl. I put a gallon of fresh gas in the tank, put in a new ignition switch and fired right up on my jump battery. I put it in my lawn mowers that will not get use over the winter as well as all my gas tractors that will set. I have freed up stuck rings on tractors that set for several years and smoked real bad from the stuck rings. That type of problem takes a few cans of Seafoam in both the gas can and crankcase along with hours of work. It is not snake oil and is also not a cure all. It won't help a smoking wore out engine.

I have used Sea foam to help clean out bad gas and it seems to do some good. Your best fuel in the stand by's is the NO alcohol fuel, it's expensive but well worth the extra cost. You can find the stations that sell it in your state by going to purefuel.org. Lots of times it is available near water as the boaters don't like the alcohol around water. I run it in all my small engines weed whackers to John Deer 400 lawn tractor.

I had very similar results to Dick L. I bought an old Mont Wards 5 hp rototiller at an auction and it smoked. I put 1 OZ of Seafoam in the crankcase each time I changed the oil and pretty much stopped the smoking. It took 2-3 oil changes but it really improved the oil burning and smoking.

It's one of the only additives I believe in. When I have the Coop deliver 300 gallons of unleaded with the diesel delivery, I pour one gallon in the barrel with it. Every gas engine here has it in it that way. It really evened out the carb on my chore pickup after it had set for quite a while. It doesn't matter how long the rototiller sits - it is always stabilized.

Only other potion I swear by is Lucas transmission additive.

Go to the "iboats" boating forum. In the archives look up "Decarbing". Then in the forum query ask the question and run fast. The responses may overwhelm you .

But don't take anybody's word for any kind of "snake oil".....it's all baloney.

Just prove it to yourself as to how much baloney is in THIS snake oil.

WW has it for about 6 bucks a can and read the label. If you have a bad problem, pay little attention to the 1 oz per gallon, maintenance ratio. Toss in the whole can, run the engine for about 15 minutes and shut her down. Let it soak over night and run your engine again the next day, whatever it is. But run there too as it will overwhelm you with burned carbon smoke billowing out and totally engulfing the area.

Once you get the exhaust to clean up, run clean, and the engine purring along, put in a new spark plug and be on your way.

It's only been around since the 40's or 50's. Somebody's been buying it.....folks like me. Funny, most every auto parts store you go into has it on the shelf. Some kind of stupid, gullable, folks.....falling for anything.

50 horse Johnson started acting up Sunday afternoon. Next weekend it will get a fresh tank of gas and a big dose of Sea foam. Would you like to guess who formulated the stuff to begin with? OMC

Seafoam is decent product but don't expect miracles. A side benefit to this is it stabilizes fuel too. You can't make bad gas good but it will prolong the life of the good gas. If you are wanting a great fuel additive cleaner I would use a bottle of chevron techron.

I was skeptical but tried it in my wood splitter that started running rough and hunting. With no carb adjustments I decided to try it what can you loose, it worked great it took about a half hour running to finally straighten out and it has run great for over a year now.

I keep some around. I put it in stuff now and again. Not sure if it helps anything but so far it hasn't hurt anything. Hard to prove it works ? It may very well be helping the 4 wheelers that mostly sit around. I have ran it in them ever since I got the carbs. cleaned out. Still ran good this year.
Had a few cars start hard and act weird and 1 thru a misfire code. This happened in winter time with changing weather from cold to warm and back. I dumped a can in each ones gas tank after incident and it didn't reoccur. Did it cure it or just the timing of the weather ? Who knows ?

Works for me. I've never added to crank case oil but I have used it several times on small engines with half clogged carbs to get them running good again. I usually add it at the begining of mowing season to clean out the carbs that have sat all winter.

I recommend it to people who have lawn equipment that sits over the winter. They complain that the equipment is not running well and I suggest a slug of Sea Foam then run it for a while. It usualy cleans things out

Go back and open up your high school chemistry books and recall what happens when alcohol is mixed with mineral oil.
If you want to dissolve gum and varnish from a fuel system. Pour in the all the methyl, Ethyl or Isopropyl alcohol you want depending on how aggressive a compound you want.

I use Berrymans B12. A lot cheaper and works good for me.

I put it in all my snowblowers for use during the winter to fight any water issues and then to help them when they set all the way till the next fall. All 28 are 2 cycle and I believe it has helped. I have 300 gallon tank that I keep 100 gallons of 50:1 mix in. When I make that blend, I just put my sea foam in and blend it up. Works great for me. Hardly have any problems with them starting in the fall from the previous winter.

for those cases in my shop been using the can gas product with a lot better success. it has shelf life of five years. alot fire departments and emergency agency use it. works great for anything that sets way more than is used. sea foam does not do much when bad gas is bad gas.

Another slightly different history of Seafoam:

From Seafoam's website history page:
"Sea Foam was actually developed for the outboard motor and marine market back in the 1930′s. The inventor, Fred Fandrei, owned an outboard motor and it seemed as though every time he went fishing he would have engine trouble. The problems always stemmed from the gas and oil mixture, which became gummy and formed varnish between uses.

The thought of spending more time fishing than working on the motor prompted Fred, who was a District Manager for the Sinclair Refining Company at that time and had a good knowledge of fuel, to invent a product that would stop the gas/oil mixture from becoming stale.
He began to advertise Sea Foam in such magazines as Field and Stream and Outdoor Life and as each order came in, he would affix a label to the product’s container and mail it out. Evinrude Outboard Motor Co. heard about Sea Foam and tested it for a full year and endorsed it nationally. Another well-known outboard motor company, Martin Motors, endorsed the product nationally, after it solved a big problem in the poppet valves of their outboard motors. - See more at: http://seafoamsales.com/our-history/#sthash.fXcueyYA.dpuf

Any gas that goes into a gas can gets a slug of it. That way any lawn mower, weed eater, chain saw, tractor boat motor or generator always has stabilized fuel in it. Switched from Stabil to Seafoam years ago and have not had an issue yet.

seafoam is a good product ,, I use lucas fuel stabilizer also , and star power ,,. also been known to pour a pint of atf in with 3-4 gallon of gas to cheer up a gasser I just woke up from a 3 yr sleep ,, worx good ,, started a DC case that had not been run since the last century I would bet ,, that ol gent purrs like a kitten now ,,. lasrt nite , I had a pressure washer that came in here gas motor actedlike it had some gunk in the carb ,,, , it ran but not rite ,,, I poured a couple tablespoonsof brake fluid into the intake neck , boy what smoke ,, but it cleared it out ,,,. if you do try that BEWARE OF THE FUMES ,,, I always get away from the smoke and fumes the exhaust goes low and can be deadly in a tite building ,, never ever inside ok ,,. and avoid the fumes ,,, or simply go to the auto parts store and get the carb cleaner you need ,,, got to tell you even that stuff stinxto hi heaven when burned thru a motor ,,.. years ago I learned about brake fluid before all the snakeoils come along ,, I can recall my dad tappin on a carb wwith a ball peen hammer to knonk the crude loose wqhile the motor wqas runnin ,, neigh or had some brake flid in truck and poured a quarter cupin breather and told us kids not to breathe the fumes ,, said if you got too much it was like mustard gass the germans used in ww 1,,,. it cleared that carburetor ritre up

????? What's unclear about what I said? I had to look up the word extoll. Not in love with the stuff but I like it and use it regularly. It does work and is not snake oil. Have rejuvenated several old engines sitting around the place with nothing more than adding it to the fuel at a high consistency, just to see if it would......not much going on at the time. Kept me occupied doing something.

My stand by generator is bone dry. After sitting unused for 10 years it starts and runs like new. Idle engines run better simply with time.

Well they did that for me and while they were at it added some Naptha of some kind for kickers. Makes it truly snake oil already
packaged and ready to go. Geez all I had to do was fork out some cash and put the can in my pocket.
