Soda blaster

The float bowl of the 28G carburettor from one of my tractors was full of corrosion . The alloy it is made from is fairly soft and there is a difficulty in getting abrasives into the intricate internal workings .
I made this soda blaster from a few bits and pieces . A normal dust down air gun with a long tube nozzle is the basis . The nozzle is fitted into a piece of plastic tubing about 2'' from the end . A piece of conduit is fitted to the pick up end to add weight and keep the soft tubing straight .
To use just place the end into a box of ordinary kitchen grade Bicarbonate of soda . Once finished the soda dissolves in water or degreaser and no residue is left .

My small direct drive compressor worked reasonably well , higher pressure and more cfm would have to see better results .

Don't reinvent the wheel. Just scoot down to HF and buy the little hand held sand blast gun. You can also put gas in it and wash down any greesey stuff you have. Just do it FAR away from any spark. I have soda blasted a lot of items but you should wash everything with a little vinegar in water. Another thing I use is Bar keepers Friend. That stuff works great on copper brass pot metal etc. Scrub a little with a hard tooth brush or finger nail brush. Give it a shot!

Thanks Jeffcat , trouble is the nearest Harbour freight is 7969 miles from Melbourne :D
We do have that type of outlet here but the range is limited and the prices would probably bring tears to your eyes .
The vinegar wash sounds logical , a good tip .

That looks nice! Wonder how the new finish will hold up?

I've got a Honda 4 wheeler I've got to go back into the carb again... Pieces of the aluminum are flaking off inside the port from the fuel inlet to the needle valve, jamming it closed, or sometimes under the seat making it flood, and from the bowl, getting into the jets.

Think that would work? Owner wants to replace the carb, but outrageously expensive!!!

Can't you mail order it? Cost is not even $20.oo or something about there. The screw on plastic bucket works very nicely.
