9 wood cutting bandsaw advise

I got this second hand. It has a 1/4" 6 TPI blade on it. One of my first projects was to cut a 12" diameter circle out of and old 1" thick oak cutting board. I couldn't for the life of me get it to turn enough to follow a 12" diameter circle. This seems absurd. Reckon it's just the blade? Maybe the offset of the teeth are bad or something. It cuts fast enough if not required to turn.

My guess is that your guides are not properly adjusted. A 1/4" blade ought to cut a 4" dia circle, but 1" oak is serious work for that blade.

I saw a You Tube instruction how to fine tune a bandsaw. I followed the instruction and improved my 14 inch Delta greatly and I had ben running bandsaws for years.

A dull blade will do weird things' best to replace that one. Also check the setting of all the guides per instructions in the manual. Also adjust the tightness of the blade per manual.

I would change the blade first and see if that helps. Blades can be had for around $10 on eBay once you know the length you need.

I suspect you are right about the guides. Most have hardened guides. If the blade runs too deep in the guides, the guides will knock the set out of the teeth. Probably time for a new blade and proper adjustment. The guides could also be worn, both the side guides and the back guides.

It's almost impossible to cut a 12" circle with a 1/4" blade. You need an 1/8" skip tooth. It will cut small circles and will also do better when cutting across the grain and ripping. The skip tooth is also faster. Make sure you blade guides are properly adjusted too.

I saw that video too. I had been cussing my Inca for years because of drift. I followed his instructions about getting the teeth in the center of the wheel. My Inca operators manual said to set them a fraction OUTSIDE the wheel toward the front. I moved them to the center and it cut perfect. Even using the fence and resawing.
I called the guy I bought it from and told him about it. He said that was the primary reason he sold it was that drift, and yes he had set it according to the Inca book.

I have a 1/2 inch wide blade with 4tpi and I can do 12 inch circle easy peasy.
Go to utube and watch the video on setting up a band saw. by "Snodgrass" maybe" ?

It's not the size of the blade or the teeth per inch. Something else is wrong. The blade is dull or there isn't enough set on the teeth. With that blade you should have easily been able to cut a 3" circle with it. A 1/4" blade with six teeth per inch is a pretty common blade for general use.
