FOR CANADIAN YT'ERS I am looking to buy a used 2004 truck imported from Canada. on "auto check",it has "Canadian renewal" from years 2010 thru 2015,nothing from 2004 thru 2009.title was issued in dec. 2003.truck is in excellent condition with 56,000 miles. I don't understand the Canadian system.could it have been sitting for 5 years with no activity? thanks in advance.

Probably the system doesn't track beyond that.Sellers of all used vehicles sold in Ontario are required to provide a "Used vehicle Information Package" which lists a history of all owners of that vehicle, any liens or brands applied to it, at the sellers expense---$25---to ensure the sale is legit and not from a 'curbsider'. Ask for it; if refused, walk quickly away.

A UVIP is required for trucks with a GVWR of 3000kgs or less. (6612lbs). Another thing that they don't tell you, but I can tell you for fact, is that RST(HST) is payable based on wholesale value only for vehicles less than 20 years old OR with a empty vehicle weight of 2200kgs or less. Basically, this means that most pickup trucks and cargo vans are exempt from these laws. If a vehicle doesn't fall under this criteria, the RST (HST) is calculated based upon the sale price, replacement value for insurance purposes, or appraised value, whichever is more.

I bought the truck. like new condition!truck was in another province for first 5 years.started the renewal when moved to Ontario.bought the car in grand ledge from dealer. thanks for all your help!!!
