I had my reservations buying a cheap HF Badlands 12000 lb winch to help load disabled tractors. This was only the second time I used it, the first was for a friend and a Farmall H (pickup and trailer). I never planned on using it on this trailer or to move something like this but it worked flawlessly. It took longer to chain it down then load it. I'm happy. I mounted the winch on a receiver plate so I can use it on different vehicles.

I'm glad to see the work this winch can do. I bought the same one recently but haven't installed it yet. I figured for $300 I can't lose too much. How do you power your winch -- 12V battery or other?

(quoted from post at 02:59:50 08/03/15) I have one. Paid about $275. Don't remember the capacity. Worked flawlessly for me.
always work good but leaving them out in the elements, shortens there life!

Hey, Please post some pictures of your receiver plate set up. I bought a 12000 lb I want to be able to put it on other trailers. Post it when you have time. HF receiver plate looked rinky to me. Is that what you used or started with? MTP...

I too have a Badlands 12000 winch. I got too close to the wet waterway with tractor and baler. Stuck down to the rim on tractor and tongue on baler. Unhooked baler, winch worked without problem pulling tractor then baler up to dry and firm. Mine is also set up to use on trailer and receiver hitch on pickup. Kept inside til needed, just like the tractors. gobble

I use mine a lot. I have a 9k and a 12 k on my trailers. Love the remote so I can steer the vehicle. Heres Fridays acquisition.

I just use a battery, long cables are expensive and I plan on using it in multiple places.

Actually mine was to operate a hay spike on the back of my hay truck. I kept it under a shed but that's about it. I did put a shield over it when I built the system to help in keeping it out of the weather. But I agree, weather is bad on everything it touches, well not everything.....crops.

Did you go straight line or use a snatch block ?
That had to pull hard to get up over the beavertail.

It is in better condition than my other 56 C600.

My tilt deck has a 12k winch that so far has not needed the use of a snatch block, it is far stronger than my old worn Warn.

On my other hauler I have the HF 9K winch on a portable mount bracket i found somewhere. I built the reciever mount for the trailer and added a separate support beam to fit under the winch, keeping it from flexing under a heavy strain.

My buddy bought a hf 2000 lb winch for his 4 wheeler a couple years ago and never used it. Yesterday we built a receiver hitch mount for it and before the final we decided to test it and lo and behold it wouldn't work! It will run when battery is applied directly to the motor, but something is wrong with the control box. It has small gauge wires and larger for the current. Looks like two relays in there. May have to rewire it. I don't think hf will honor warranty now.
