I recently have received an e-mailing, supposable from Uncle Sam, urging me to look at my Social Security account. It has a link post to follow. And of course, right up front it asks for your SS number. I have not went any farther than SS number question As this sure seems like a scam to me. If the gov. knows me they also now my SS number so why are they asking for it. And why have I got it three times? Scam......

Got it last month..

it was ligit...

went to .gov and logged in and got my updated ss account info.... Still not enough money to live well.

It's a good practice to NEVER log in to a secure site from a link in an email, or anywhere else. If you get a message from anyone saying your account needs attention, type in the address, or use your own bookmark to log in that site. That way you can't be scammed.

You were the victim of a "phishing" attack. The idea is to get you to follow a link that you THINK is legitimate, but is in fact malicious. They're usually trying to get information from you that they can use for other purposes. Such as your SSN.

You can always phone your closest SS office, you may have to wait on hold for awhile, but you'd at least know.
