Buck knife warranty

I thought I would share my experience I had sending my buck 112 to Buck for repair. I didn't expect the repairs to be covered under warranty but I figured $10 to fix it would be a good deal. The tang stamp dated it 1988, it now has a 2015 blade. It's a new knife now. I don't remember what I was doing that broke the blade but I sure did booger it up.

I've heard that about Buck. The knife in my pocket is over 60 years old, haven't broken it yet.

I've been carrying a 112 for nearly 20 years that looks about the same, other than the fact I resharpened/repointed the blade after the tip got broken off when I let a friend borrow it. I've been debating sending it back in, like you thinking about the cost to repair it. This post has made up my mind.

I have a Buck as well and it truly is a great tool. One problem I have had is that it seems difficult to put a good edge on it because the steel is so hard. How do you folks sharpen yours?

I would agree, at least with the older ones, and was the main reason I carried a Schrade. Schrade steel was definitely good. I'm due for another pocket knife, had a Buck 503, smaller, but just right for me, think it fell out of my pocket when I rode in the spray truck to show him all the fields. I wonder what Buck uses for steel on these, given Schrade went to China, likely I'll carry a Buck.

Buck uses 420HC Steel, I've found using two stones med/course & then very fine puts a good edge on my Buck. I've been carrying a Buck 110 for years and just put it away in favor of a Buck 397 if you like a large folding knife the drop point 397 is the way to go. Does not fall out of Sheath .

Good information, I had noticed this years ago, it was just different and nothing I had in stones would do anything to put a sharp edge on one of these.

I knew Chuck Buck when I lived in San Diego. He is a good man and stands behind his products, and I have a lot of them. He pulled stakes and moved the company to Arizona or some other state. I will not let the big city politicians drive me out, but I dont run a big company either.

Buck has the best knife warrantee ever, I have had a knife few broken and they will send you a new replacement. I even was given a broken knife and they replaced it with a new one. Very good knives and very good company.

IMHO, you are confusing the terms "warranty" and "building good will", but never the less you turned out good!

I also have a 110 Folding Hunter that I bought 40 years ago. One of my favorites, it is hard to sharpen, but will hold an edge like nothing else. Mine is dinged up a bit but nothing like the beating you put on that guy. Glad to know Buck stands behind their product.

I have a Buck 501 that I bought back in '84 that I sent off to get the blade repaired back in the late 90's. They did me right. That knife has been in my right front pocket for over 30 years.
