Ford 4500 stalled -and won't start

Hi everybody – I’m new here and have a problem with my 1975 Ford 4500 backhoe. I was hauling a piece of equipment in the loader and decided to check the rigging when it shifted a little. I thought I had it in neutral with the brake on and let out on the clutch. It apparently was still in the low gears and stalled out. I made sure it was in neutral this time and attempted to start it but when I turned the key I got noting – no starter, cranking, the voltage gauge stayed steady – nothing. It shifts fine into all the gears and has fuel and battery. Any ideas as to what I need to do?

Thanks for your answer. I wondered if it might be the neutral safety switch. As I said it was running fine until I stalled it. Could that have caused the switch/switches to quit? Where is the neutral safety switch located?
Also I have had this backhoe for about 6 years now and have had to do some minor repairs to it that were obvious fixes - leaky hoses and such. I've looked for a manual at Tractor Supply and have had no luck - do you (or anyone else) know where I can find the definitive manual for this backhoe? Thanks again for the suggestion.
Bill

2 wires for the neutral safety switch go into the transmission (under the top cover if I remember). If you're careful you can
plug the two wires together and try it. If it starts, its the switch. If it still doesn't start you've saved yourself a lot of
trouble trying to get at the switch.

I got my 4500 backhoe manual from Jensales.....but some pics are not very clear. Was years ago, don"t know if they"re better now.

If your careful and be 1000% sure it is out of gear you can jumper across the 2 big terminals on the starter solenoid and make it start. That is unless it has a battery cable or connection problem. I have started more then one old machine that way when a safety switch has caused a problem. But as I said be sure it is not in gear or even better have some one hold the clutch pedal down while to try that
