Case Pocketknife

I bought a Case pocketknife at the local hardware store and thought I was well pleased but I looked at a catalog from the "World's largest knife store" and my knife is not listed and they have no Case knife for as little as I paid for mine. I paid about $30 for mine and they have no Case for less then about $45. Did my hardware store buy some Case imitations? The clerk assured it was made in USA.

Case does make some models that can be bought for around $30. What did you buy? I just bought a Trapper off of Amazon for $36.

Could be old stock, although Case knives haven't sold for 30 bucks since maybe 1990. Could be a knock-off, but if it was, wouldn't they copy a popular model? Googling "case counterfeit knives" brings up a few hits, but it sounds like most counterfeits are copies of older, collectible knives. Maybe that's what you have. Did it come in a Case box, or was it loose?

Was in a box Item#00081 small 3 blade, just suits me for size. Big blade has Case name with 3 small bots widely spaced. Center blade USA and small blade SS. I am sorry but it looks like it is stainless. Maybe the reason for the price.

Google is your friend. Running that part number returns a Case small stockman, US made, surgical steel blade, available through Amazon for $31.50, but less from other retailers.

The three small dots are actually very small * These are quality control marks. Should have 2 small XX usually below the * marks.

The SS stands for surgical Stainless Steel and is high quality. These hold an edge very well. Been carrying one of these for many years in the 2 blade trapper and small trapper models.

One thing I will tell is some of these can be a bear to sharpen the first time. But once you get it sharp the the first time after that they sharpen pretty easy.

I see a lot of these other than the ones I carry as my wife is a Case knife collector. If you are ever in Branson MO there is a Case XX outlet store. There you can get a sheet of paper or buy the collector book. Look up the logo on your knife and compare to the book and it will tell what years it was made.

Obsolete knife. Try a Gerber spring assist folder that has the pocket clip on it Knife rides vertically along the seam of your pants. No more knives crossways at the bottom of your pocket. Easy to get to sitting down. One hand removal from pocket and one hand opening. Been wearing one 365/yr for 15 years and NEVER leave home without it.
