mid 70's Troy Bilt Tiller

In the midst of resurrecting a Troy Bilt Tiller. Have replaced the tiller shaft, seals and bronze worm gear (among other parts). Is it normal to have any amount of play in the tiller shaft at this point? [/img]

Scater, to check play in the worm shaft you grab the tines and see how far the worm shaft pulley moves forward and backward when you try to
rotate the tine shaft. To lessen this movement you subtract shims from the back cover at the back end of the worm shaft of the gearbox by the
tines. The shims preload the tapered bearings on the worm shaft. Hope this makes sense. You can email me and I'll scan pictures out of my
manual. I've used this manual several times to rebuild quite a few troy bilt tillers. The man years ago at the garden shop told me this
manual was the Troy Bilt Bible. He was correct.
