Hey guys.
I have a 1998 Ford explorer that is my main parts chaser. It has a 4.0 EFI pushrod engine vin X.
It makes a moaning sound under the hood that varies with throttle position and starts after the engine is at operating temperature.
I tracked the sound down to the area of the mass airflow sensor and have done the following:
Replaced the air filter, inspected the filter housing and intake tube for cracks, sprayed the MAS with the recommended cleaner and insured that all clamps are tight.
Has anyone heard of a MAS making a sound like this? Vibration?
I guess the next step is to replace the MAS. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Brad
