IR Air Compressor takes long time to buils up pressure

I picked up a IR Air Compressor Model 2340. Just got it going and took over 30 minutes to pump up to 100 pounds. My owners manual doesn't say much about servicing it. How would you check and clean valves and is there a way to do a compression test on pump ? thanks

I don't know what type of air compressor that is but one of the first thing to check on any air compressoris the air cleaner on intake side. I know that if my air cleaners get dirty it doesn't pump right.

My first guess would be broken reed valve. They're easy to check, just pull the heads and take a look. No real good way to check the compression, if it's a high pressure valve, the low side head will be overheating and the intercooler pop off will be blowing air. If it's a low pressure valve the FLA will be low and take a long time to pump up.

The reeds come in a complete kit. Bought mine from eCompressedair.com, best price I found.

Steve I googled IR 2340 a complete parts list with good diagram comes up. They are pretty simple-just nuts and bolts. These guys are right-it should pump your tank up in 5 or 6 minutes. If you are uncomfortable with doing it yourself there are plenty of trained repair shops that can fix it.

Too long. Unless he has one of those silo type receivers hooked up to a 5 horse pump. Should not take more than 7 minutes. Something is broken.

Another thing...if you are lucky it takes the same size reeds that your feeler gauge is. Go to a good NAPA with the broken reed and buy the extra long feeler gauge replacement. Done it a couple of times on neighbors machines.
