welding rod

I have no clue, i never use that rod.

I found on my local scrap yard a couple 5 years ago free for the taking an 15 lb unopened box of nickel rods and another with stainless steel rods, both 5/32"
I bet these are worth a pretty penny
I have used half of them so far.

What will you use it for? Ten years ago I was given a large amount of welding rod in 50# cans. A lot of it was XX18 and XXX18 (low hydrogen with iron powder in the flux) ranging from 7018 up to 12018. I had no trouble selling it at around $1 per pound, but most people who bought anything above 7018 assumed that it was exactly the same as 7018, only stronger. But that's not true. As you go above 70K psi tensile strength, the composition and intended purpose of the steel changes. Most casual weldors aren't skilled enough that the composition of the filler metal is ever going to be their main problem, but it probably doesn't make the job any better to weld your trailer with electrodes that are specifically made for corrosive gas piping systems, for instance.
