Resurfacing a Cutting Edge

Is it feasible to add material on to a worn out cutting edge on a 3 point blade? It seems a new edge for my Case - Danuser blade is hard to find.

Danuser is still in business. I would just call them. They are a very good company to deal with.

As for resurfacing your old one. Yes it could be done but you would have more in it than a new cutting edge would cost.

Also most cutting edges are not that special. They usually use a 6 or 12 inch bolt spacing. So you may be able to match it with other brands other than Danuser/Case.

Go to you local steel supply store and ask for AR steel(abrasion resistant), either weld it to you old cutter or get a piece big enough to bolt on as a replacement(you will need a plasma cutter or cutting torch, you are not going to drill AR.)

I have a 3pt back blade, heavy duty, with a cutting edge that was welded on, so I can sympathise. Hard facing can be applied without warping the blade, but it has to be sequenced correctly. There are people online that have done this sort of thing many times, as in the link I am attaching.

I think its possible, you can build up with 7018, then finish with the appropriate hard facing, the latter of which I believe you are not supposed to use for building up. Anyone working on crawlers or mass excavation equipment years ago would know how to do this, as it was more common to rebuild some wear parts. Think about some of the wear parts, not all of the part was hardened, though a cutting edge in its entirety, is one type of hardened steel. I've got a take off piece of it for my old loader and I'll build up the worn corners with 7018, then hard face it. I won't use it enough to ever be a concern again, heck just the 7018 would suffice for how much work it sees.
