When I can't buy something, I make it.

I was looking for a guide for my 4 1/2 right angle. Cliff(VA) gave me a post for a DW4705 saw guide, but I couldn't find any one who sells it. So when I can't buy one, I made one. This is a very simple design. As the cutoff blade wears down all I have to do is lift up on grinder handle, it will tip the cutoff wheel deeper into the metal No need to adjust anything, just lift up. Or I can easily move the guard instead.

I have a metal bandsaw to cut most of my metal. I also have a 14 inch chop saw. Only use the 4 1/2 cutoff for small cuts or I have used it along with generator to cut large stuff instead of moving the oxygen/acetylene torch.

I think my guide will help me stabilize grinder. If not, I don't have much time or any money invested. My primary tests look good. It will only work if I'm making long cuts.

I just use the original guide as dept limiter.
Did you know a 5" zip disc fits right inside the guide of a DeWalt.
That's all i use nowadays,..a 5" zip disc..same price as a 4 1/2 disc.

I buy dewalt 4.5 disks for $.99 on sale. I've had good luck with them. I've never seen a
5 inch disk. Does dewalt make 5 inch cut off disk? Who sells the ones you use?

Looks like that will do the job George. I'm the same way, I live pretty far from town so if I need something heck I just make it......

Cool... I use extra thick welding gloves they are not much good for anything even welding except they have saved me form getting hurt real bad from a runaway grinder/cut off tool..

Iffin you have the desire to burn up a few cut off wheels I buy up cabinets like this for $20 are so and cut them up to fit my storage needs...

I seem to damage many welding gloves with cutoff wheels. Gloves offer little
protection, except for keeping sparks off my arms. The cutoff wheels are dangerous if
you're not careful. I've even broken a few. Good thing I was wearing face protection
or it would have gotten me in the face or eyes.

It shouldn't be that hard cutting the tin cabinets. One time I cut a 10 inch mobile
home I-beam with cutoff wheel. It was easier using portable generator and grinder than
dragging out the cutting torch. Another time I shortened the axle on my Farmall C. The
axle was about 2 inches in diameter. I find the cutoff wheels last longer is you don't
push them, just take your time and let them make sparks.

Anyone who sells welding supplies should have all sizes, i buy them from my local Bumper to Bumper and Co-op farm supply store
I have never bought DeWalt discs.

Rural Kings, a farm store, sells dewalt tools and some welding supplies. Normally the
dewalt disks are $2. When they are on sale, I get a box of 25 for $.99 each. They out
last the HF disks. Menards has an off brand that isn't as good as dewalts, but many
times better than HF.

I've never seen a 5 inch disk, but will keep an eye out for one. thanks,
