Cost of Deckover Trailer

How much does a new 12,000# rated deckover trailer cost? Trying to figure out if it's worth reworking mine or not.

You can buy 12,000 lb, 8" I beam frame ,16" on centers cross beams, 102" wide, 18 FT.deck with beaver tail and standup ramps for about $4,500.00 and for a few dollars more you can go to 14,000 lb. trailer. You can get them cheaper if you use 6" channel iron frame and go 96" wide. You could call around to dealers and feel them out on prices.

Depends on how much you have to do to it.Just replacing a wooden floor, no problem to rebuild. Buy oak lumber from sawmill, if available.

Glenn,
I only have a 18ft+2ft bumper hitch 14k, sure trac. Mine isn't a deckover but it was just a little over $3K. I would think a deck over would be too high. Mine is difficult to load a tractor as it is. There was only a few hundred difference between a 12 and a 14K. I think the upper deck and frame was the same, only difference was the axle and tires on the 12k.

I rebuilt a smaller landscaping trailer and by the time I was finished had almost as much in a 15 year old trailer as I could have bought a new one for. When I sold my old trailer, I got about 75% of a new one.

No issues with buying a new. When mine gets a few years on it and before it needs tires, I'll sell mine and buy new.

Here's this situation. My trailer is a converted mobile home frame. Weighs 3,000#. 6.5' wide. Still has mobile home axles. I have all the steel to widen it out to 102", but I'm not totally confident of my vertical welding skills. It would not be worth hiring the work done.

Some of the new deckovers are not very high off the ground. My PJ low profile deckover is only 31" off the ground and I like the 102" wide and very easy trailer to load tractors. I gave a little over $5,000.00 with options; heavier jack stand, spare tire and bracket, and third ramp. I got mine out of Funk Trailer Morris,Ill.

My concern would be is your trailer DOT approved because it home made and do the brakes work on all axles? Break away too? Then look at the liability issue if you get in an accident. Good excuse to buy new and get what you want. You've talked me into it. I don't regret getting a new 10k dump and 14k implement trailer the same year. So ask yourself, "Self am I worth it?"

I don't know about DOT approval. I would have no problem having it inspected when I'm done. It's currently got whatever brakes Dexter puts on on all four wheels. Down the road I would probably change out the axles and oo, but for the little I use it these serve just fine. I have the break away system. It just needs to be installed.

My decking is white oak & in excellent condition. The only reworking it needs is to widen it out and wire up the brakes, installing the break away system in the process. Deck works well as is, I would just like it 102" wide with stake pockets & bumper along outside edge. Currently no place to hook chain, and no bulkhead across the he front. My biggest tractor is currently a DC CASE, weighing in at very close to 6,000#.

Forty sum years ago I had an eighteen foot goose neck trailer made from the frame and running gears of an Airstream trailer that had the Hinsion torsion ride suspension. best pulling trailer there was, and it didn't hop all over the road when empty and loaded.
If I wuz going to build or order an other one I would choose the torision type suspension over springs any day.

I just recently built a low trailer from various parts I accumilated over the passed year. To keep the deck low for easier loading,I built drive over fenders that can be removed if needed. 80% of my use doesn't require more than 6'4" wide deck which is inside the fenders but the 8' is there when I need it. It replaced a true deckover that was so high it was often a pain to load. The lower center of gravity on the new trailer is an improvement in handling while hauling taller loads. Everyone wanted to gouge the price to vary from their standard desighn.

When I was looking for a new trailer I looked at several trailers with Torision axles. I didn't buy a trailer with torision axles after finding out that the axles are not rebuildable so you have to replace the whole axle and they are harder on tires.I bought the spring suspension and I have had no problems with trailer hop loaded or empty.

I just got a 102" 20+5 14k deckover bumper pull with tool box, triple spring-loaded ramps, 2" receiver hitch on front rub rail, extra 2" receiver hitch on rear bumper (for mounting winch) for about $5700 from Kearney in Emory, TX. I know someone that knows someone.
