OT Security Camera's and Alarms

I have a couple building in town that I have some tractors, antiques, and general storage in that over the last several years have had vandels spray paint there gang stuff on the outside. Then last week, someone broke inside and stole all my copper, a new central ac condensing unit and several other things. I am not sure what to do. our cops are worthless and I want to alarm or camera but not sure weather to camera outside, inside or both?? A lot of people who I talk to that have camera said now days these thief wear a face mask or hoodie most time so you don not get a idea who it is. If that is the case, are cameras a waste of money. Do you camera just doors?? How about some loud horns wired to 110 volt motion dect. inside. will that scare them off. Would sure like to hear from any and all of you that have been there done that and what you have found that works and don't work. Thank you.

I have Scoutguard trail cameras at my farm , these are good if the Police are able to recognise the thieves , otherwise they have limited value .
I don't know if these are legal where you are , they are not here but are still used by many . The noise is very believable and if coupled with a balloon filled with red paint or dye that explodes at the same time it usually sees the trespasser running off thinking they have been hit .

What size blank cartridge is used in that, Charles?

My grandfather used to cast something similar out of lead 45 years ago. ...His used .38 caliber blanks.

His "alarms" were mounted on door jambs and window jambs. ....When leaving the house or to open a window, a cartridge had to be removed.

Police are slow to respond to alarms in some area now because of the huge number of false alarms from systems. I believe some law enforcement agencies will now charge a fee for false alarms.

There are systems available now that do not use a monitoring service with it's monthly fee. Most of them are wireless battery operated to be installed by the user; the system will call a designated number first (your number) then on to the next programmed number until someone answers. However, the system will only work properly if the batteries are replaced when needed. Check available systems online and do your homework.

They are know as ' Alarm mines ' or ' Poachers' alarms ' , an English innovation . The one pictured is a Henry Krank alarm mine , it uses a blank 12 gauge shell , the sort used for starting yacht races , I don't know if they have wads or not . If the shells you use do have wads then it is probably a good idea to make sure that the shell faces a wall or other screen . The detonation of the shell can be used to blow a bag of dyed water as I mentioned before . A balloon full of talcum powder works fairly as well . My personal favourite is a plastic bag with used copy machine toner in it . The light bag will not deflate over time as a balloon will , the toner is light and flies everywhere , hopefully over the perpetrator . The one pictured is one of the original patterns , made for use out in the field .
