Newly painted door sticks to jamb

I have to repaint the back door of my garage. I know from previous experience with it that even after a full day of drying in the hot weather we're having, the paint on the door will stick to the jamb after it's been closed overnight. Sometimes in this situation I'm able to find a way to secure the door with it still open a couple of inches to give it more time to dry, but in this case there isn't a practical way to do that. Would it hurt the new or old paint for me to put Vaseline on the jamb? Would it keep the fresh paint from sticking? Is there another way, or a better way, to do this?

Thanks,

Stan

Does the jamb have a seal on it? I normally just remove those (especially magnetic seals if the door is steel) for a couple of days until the paint is dry underneath. I've used vaseline on the seals with some limited success if the paint had at least 8 hours of dry time. Wax paper stuck but narrow plastic shrink wrap around the door edges did OK. I definitely would not use anything with silicone.

I usually just apply vaseline after paint has dried a full day. Sometimes I just taped thin plastic to door, to act as a "sandwich".

Is there any clearance between the door slab and the jamb opposite the lock stile ? Old layers of paint that could be stripped in that narrow area, probably won't take much to get some clearance, same with the butt hinge side, or what about just prepping it for spray paint on the edges you are concerned with? That would be a thinner mil thickness of paint if done that way.

It would go better to use Sherwin Williams brand paint. Theirs dries a little faster. Still if you can paint the jamb and stop on one day and paint the door itself another day it would be better. Having fresh paint on both is asking for it if you don't have to.

Paint stores use a hair drier or a hot air gun to speed cure paint samples when checking their color match. Would that also work to speed cure the paint that will contact the door jamb?

A light dusting of talcum powder usually stops this . I would have to agree with WGM , latex paint has no place on doors and jambs .
