Cleaning Clothes

I work on tractors and get my clothes greasy. My wife doesn't seem to get my clothes clean. How do you get your work clothes clean.

I take mine and rub in Goop or Go Joe into the bad spots and let it set for several hours before washing in Tide. It takes the grease out.

A cap full or two of Cloudy Ammonia [ available from the supermarket ] along with normal laundry detergent will shift most greasy stains . If they are really bad soak in very hot water alone in a bucket with some extra cloudy ammonia for a day .
Don't sniff the stuff or use it with a normal wash it is very irritating to the nose and lungs . The residue washes out completely and doesn't leave odours behind .

I add a cup of vinegar with the detergent.
Another problem , When you run clothes through the drier with stains still in them the drier will lock the stain in.

My wife keeps a can of Goop and a small scrub brush in the laundry room.

If your washing in a newer front loader they aint gonna get clean.

Some dishwasher detergents can have bleach. I tried dishwasher detergent in a clothes washer and accidentally turned some new blue jeans into tie-dyed jeans.

Friend of mine pours in a can of coke pop, he claims there cleaner than detergent alone. Never tried it myself. chris

I never put anything on them (I have to wash the "work clothes" - overalls and jeans) ahead of time. I put two of those stupid washer pouches in the load and three or four scoops of Oxyclean. That stuff really works.

Who cares if work clothes don't get spotless in da wash machine.
They're bound to get dirty again right after you put them back on.

Pre-treat the greasy/oily spots with Dawn dishwashing liquid. Or, better yet, train HER to do that.

Any hand grease cleaner rubbed on and into the grease spots will help. If it is a better pair of bibs I sometimes glob it on and rub the degreaser in while wearing them. The sooner it can be added to the area the less stain after machine washing.

I let my bibs hang and air dry too.

I use the cheap power in a bag from wally world. No pre treatment. Use two scoops and only wash my bibs by themselves. Comes out clean. I have a washer that I can adjust water level manually. Set level to use less water, soap is more concentrated that w

Mechanic friend who worked on heavy equipment used to lay his car hart bibs in the driveway and pour "simple green"on them. Later he used his pressure washer on them. Seemed to do the job. Worth a try.

I have some industrial cleaner from a pressure washer company in a spray bottle or foamy engine degreaser in an areosol can.

My work jeans don't get washed in a machine at all.
(heavy grease or gear oil smell in the washer will
make for a very unhappy woman)
Harsh garage cleaners and a hose and bucket, then hang em up outside.
I don't do it often, I buy cheap work jeans and usually about the time they are filthy enough to stand up by themselves...they are worn out too. in the trash.

ps don't wear em/take them off/hang them in the house.
Do it all in the back room before you enter.
(see above about unhappy woman)

psps when your jeans are shiny black totally ingrained with grease, oil and dirt, it's like wearing leather chaps.
deflects all kinds of hazards in the shop. lol
