cordless drills

I have several cordless drills, different brands all have problems.. motors all good. just bad transmissions. it will spin/work if not under a load.. you put under a load and the motor works but not the bit. you can hold the bit with your hand to keep from turning while the motor is turning.. your ideas on repairing or forget about it. thanks

Stripped gear or clutch is trashed.. They are like Bic lighters and are not made to repair but were made to be replace.

If they were all the same brand there might be some commonality among the parts. Since they are all different , not much hope there. Chucks might interchange . Personally I have had great service from DeWalt. The cheap batteries I bought are my only issue.

Totally agree, you get what you pay for. I was a Milwaukee fan 30 years ago. Still have a good Milwaukee right angle drill and hammer drill, 120v.
I'm a 18v dewalt fan now. If I were to buy a new drill, I would get one without brushes.
I once used drills to set screws, until I got a 1/4 inch impact. The impact is my workhorse.

thanks for replies, I suppose parts would hard to come by for ea. brand..i would do the work of the repair. I guess this is the end of that project.. have A good day

Ryobi works for me especially with the Lithium batteries, at the right price from Home Depot. I have one I replaced the motor ( a kid I hired tore up, not knowing any better) and still works fine but also bought a new tomato worm green and black. Can't tell any difference in the operation. Both run on the 18v Lithium as do the rest of the Ryobi crowd including my light duty weed whacker.

Hello cb,

Why don't you take one of them apart and look at what you got! Most of the time a good cleaning and greasing will put them back in shape. Just pay attention how they come apart. Usually there is a planetary gear set up, and the gearing is so small that with age, they just stop working. They are not working now, so you have nothing to lose.
Are you sure the the motors are running at the proper speed. Battery pack o.k.?

Guido.

thanks for replies,.i think your right on the matter, the clutch is slipping on the motor shaft as I said you can hold the bit with your hand with the motor running,,i think the motor is strong on all of the units. just the clutch slipping have great day
