I need to atend a meeting,,,,hello,my name is Larry,,,Im a tool a holic?

Had an old used shovel for over 30 years and liked it, split it trying to pry out a rock, bought a new one and hated it, mig welded the old one and back in business.

Reminds me of the time I bought two splitting mauls at an auction. As the second was handed to me the auctioneer commented "Lot's of mustard there". Little did he know what a good home those tools were getting...

60 isn't that old!! Great to see you do that kind of work yet Larry. Hardest part is just getting started.

I have used the same Australian made 'Cyclone' shovel for almost forty years . I have had to change the handle four times and the head twice but it is still as good as ever , amazing

Larry if you think you have a problem you better NEVER come look in my shop you would think you had nothing LOL

My father was (among other jobs) a professional fencer at one stage of his career. And from that comes a design of post hole shovel that you can't buy, but allows you to get the last dirt out of a three foot post hole (whether the other implement was a crow bar or a tractor).

To make them these days and get the right head angle I have to take a Trojan spade (Charles) and adapt.

I think that I'm getting better. Went to Harbor Freight on Friday and walked all the aisles twice and some 3 times and could not find anything that I needed or wanted to buy.

Hi Ian;

Could you post a picture of that shovel, or if that's not something you can do, provide a more detailed description of it? That sounds like a tool I would find handy---unfortunately.

Thanks,

Stan

My biggest problem is that I can't find the recoil starter rope on the shovel. I wonder where they hid it. LOL

What amuses me is not that you buy them...heck, I do that! No, it is the fact that you restore them all and then find some part of it to paint blue. :)

It's a happy color.

People have said, if they had to go to jail, they want to be in my cell. They know I would be able to dig our way out!

Here is my latest project: 48" deep, 2' wide, and 32' long and all hand dug. Concrete block wall, core filled with rebar, 10" block and concrete hand mixed.

And [b:6093d274d2]I am only 72 years old![/b:6093d274d2]

I could have done that at 72 also, but at 80 I leave the hard work to the younger people.

I have a similar sickness involving cross cut saws, bullet moulds and old power tools from the 50's. I don't think there's a 12 step program for it. I'm okay with that.....
