Black and Decker cordless cultivator

So any of you have one?? I just got one today and have the battery on the charger right now. Do the y work pretty good or did I waste $65 on it?? Any more my legs and back do not like me bending down and pulling weeds in the garden so figured I would buy one and try it out. Lowe's had one on sale for $65 and the regular price on it is $99. Plus Lowe's gives a 10% military discount

You need to take a trial run and report to US how it works. Sounds interesting. BTW, I put weed cloth between my onion rows. To hold the cloth down I spread some soil on it. Then the weeds grew ON the cloth but I fixed 'em. Lift the cloth a bit and it tears 'm loose from their roots and a few hours later shriveled up. Never ending battle.

I do a lot of mulch but that takes a lot of grass clipping to keep the weeds at bay so that is why I got this thing. Where the thick mulch is I have few weeds but other places well they are getting ahead of me and with all this rain they may out run me. LOL

I do a lot of mulching too. Last year the zucchini didn't seem to like it, also hesitate to put it around onions. I've never seen a battery powered rototiller, just those small 2 cycle gas ones. Gonna try finding them on google.

Don't have the cultivator, but I do have the Black and Decker cordless electric string trimmer. I am happy with how well it works, but I quickly learned to have at least 3 batteries on hand, all charged up and ready to go before I even pick up the string trimmer.

Is it anything like this? This one's offered by Amazon for $123 on sale. You musta got a good deal.

That is exactly what I got. Menards had them for $95 and Lowe's regular price was $99 but Lowe's had one that had been on the shelve as a display so it was marked down to $65. So then add the Military discount and that payed for the taxes and also got another tool so it total out to $66

Menards also had a corded tiller for $134 but I passed on it due to the cord. I have had 2 of those small gas tillers and both died in 2 years or less. Also saw at Lowe's they had gas weed eaters that where set up so you could remove the weed eater part and put on other stuff like a tiller but with each thing costing $99 plus the weed eater it self at over $150 I pasted

So then you have around $150 just in the batteries. I was told just a battery would cost me $50

I've got a bulged disc in lower back/ legs go numb, been using a frt tine tiller for years to cult. between rows, used it half an hour yesterday morning and had a tuff time getting out of bed this morn. Was looking at those 2 cycle mini tillers last week at farm/fleet but they look like pure junk.

I got my extra batteries on Amazon. Much less costly, and yes, I most likely do have more money invested in the batteries than what I paid for the trimmer, but those same batteries also fit my cordless electric drill. A fully charged battery is good for about 10 minutes of constant weed-eating before getting weak.

Way back when Mathis first came out my dad got one and it lasted maybe a year. Then a bit later he got a Troy Built one and it lasted 2 season. I did just try that cultivator and it sort of works but it does not seem to like the dirt I have right now but then on the other hand maybe that is because of all the rain we have been having and last week so it is sort of mud. May work a whole lot better once things dry out some

Ya the guy at Lowe's told me that the cordless drill used the same battery and that I could buy one at the mall for around $49 and that drill came with all the bells and whistles as in extra do dads for it

We've had our Mantis for the past 20 years or so and it hasen't failed us but 1 time & that was when I was mixing the gas too heavy with oil and plugged up the spark arrester. Cleaned it out and mix the gas like the manual calls for and no more problems with it. It's amazing what good things happen when you read and follow the directions LOL. Keith

I looked at them this Spring but decided to keep using a hoe that I cut down to look like a mewing machine section. I only use it to get around the plants because I run the tiller between the rows.

Old, you must have a set of cultivators for your 77. why don't you just take three passes through with it?

I often thought that those weed whackers with the interchangeable "implements" were pretty nice.....

BUT.....the one big drawback is that the engines are only rated to run for 50 hours according to the labeling. So, if it is a string trimmer today, a mini-tiller tomorrow, and a pole saw the next day, and so on, then you will wear out the engine before any of the attachments. And, then you are stuck either buying a new engine or losing the use of the attachments.
BTW, I have had a couple of the 2-cycle mini tillers. They are very handy for weeding and tilling small areas. The last one that I had lasted about 10 years before it refused to run any more. Just picked up a Chinese at an auction, and it runs good, tills good, and seems like it might actually last a few seasons. I hope.

Ah did you know when they first came out they had lots of problems and my dad was one who would jump on the new things that had bugs still in them

I do a square foot garden which means lot of stuff in a small area and the tires on my Oliver 77 would knock down 3/4 of my garden in one pass weed and vegges all at the same time so that would NEVER work

I'd love to tell you I do not understand but I have a 5.5 inch scar on my lower back due to the L-5/S-1 disk and having part of it missing. Before I was cut on I could put my palms of the ground now i am luck if I can touch the ground

Based on your post I looked into the Ryobi version (since I already have the batteries and chargers for the One+ system) and ordered it from Home Depot. It's just what we were looking for. $69.97 w/o battery or charger. Thanks for posting this!

Hope the Ryobi works better then the Black and Decker one does. I took the B/D back to Lowe's today and got an earth quack electric tiller. Just hope this electric tiller works better then the cultivator

I'm using composted llama manure in a heavy layer in my garden and it's pretty loose. So this should work well for me, I'll let everyone know how it goes. I have a Mantis type small gas tiller and a front tine MTD tiller, but they are too big once the plants are in.

I have both a Mantis tiller and a small Troy Built the same size and both did not last 2 years. This new Earth Wise tiller is the same size as the Mantis but is electric so the cord is a small problem but likely to work longer then the mantis did
