refrigerator with freezer on top. freezer gets down to 0*, refrigerator part stays warm, 55-60* Any ideas. No exposed coils to be able to clean. Call repairman or replace?
And I deliberty left make out to stop complaing about one one make over anouther. All are pretty much made same way but I don't know how to work on them. Easy repairman fix or too expencive a fix?

We had the same thing on ours. Repair man came out and on the back wall of the fridg section there was a cover with coils under it. The coils were a solid block of ice. He replaced a fan and some other part I don't remember what it was called. Has worked fine for the last 2 years

The refrigerator is actually secondary to the freezer. You will have a removable panel on the back of the freezer compartment. Inside there is an evaporator coil. That coil is the source of the cooling. There is also a passage that leads down into the refrigerator compartment. Cold air travels down that passage to provide cooling for the refrigerator portion of the unit.

I suggest that you empty the freezer, remove that rear panel, and check for icing or blockage. Also note that there is a "door" that directs a portion of the cold air either into the freezer or the refrigerator compartments.

IF there is an ice buildup, unplug the unit and use a hair dryer to melt off the ice. Then plug it back in and it should operate correctly. Also check to see that the passage for the cold air to travel down to the refrigerator compartment is open and not blocked.

If you find an ice buildup, and it continues to ice up, it is probably a problem with the defrost heater circuit.

Because the evaporator coil operates at temperatures below freezing, it will build up ice. There is a defrost circuit to deal with that problem. There is a heating element below and attached to the evaporator coil. That heater is activated by a defrost timer that melts off the ice every 24 hours or so. There are only 3 parts involved: the heating element, the timer, and a thermostat. None of those parts are very expensive.

Post back with your results.

I emptyed the fridge a few days ago and it was unpluged for at least 3 days with the doors open. Then this evening I pluged it back in and just used a standard outdoor thermoter to check temp.

Just checked freezer temp 4 above, refrigerator 56* and vents in back pannel hot. Is there sopposed to be fan mooving air? Feel no air movement.

Leroy, I have one that did the exact same thing.
Behind the panel inside the freezer was a small fan called the Evaporator Fan Motor that went out. About $25 online for a replacement. It blows the cold air down a channel to the refrigerator. In my case, I knew this part was going out for some time, as I could here the old one squealing for a while and then it died. Easy fix, two screws and a plug and a done deal. Hope this helps.

I had one do that and the repairman came out and found the light was staying on. Check the light switch inside the refrig, If the switch is bad, remove the bulb tell you can get a new door switch. just my .02 cents.......Jim in N.M.

5 years, according to manufactur date inside was about a year old when bought new. Made fall of 09.

I read that a sure way to tell if you have a refrigerator or glove box light that stays on all the time. Open the door and quickly feel the bulb. If it's cool it just turned on, if it is hot, it has been on all the time.
