You have a wire connecting your computer to the modem.

You have a HDTV.

But, is your tv a Smart tv?

If so, is it a wireless smart tv? You didn't say?

If not:

You need a router with antenna to give you wireless Internet at your place.

Then you need a wireless smart thing to connect to your tv. This 'thing' sorts out and looks on the Internet for available tv streams. The 'smart' part.

There are some nice DVD blue ray players that are also Smart wireless for $100 or so.

There are Smart boxes that are wireless for maybe $40 that plug into your tv. Some of these are dedicated to one or two services; others are more open to all. Amazon has some offerings too. Some are tiny little dongle size.

Be sure whatever you buy will plug into your tv. We assume your tv is newish and can deal with it, but there can be combinations that don't fit to each other.

There is not much worthwhile free smart internt TV to watch. Some, but not a great selection. So, you likely will end up with a roku, Hulu, Netflix, etc sort of subscription.

Make sure your 'smart thing' will support th subscription you want to get.

This is a beginners comments; I really haven't ever subscribed to anything, tho I do have a wireless smart samsung blue Ray DVD that I can watch the few free offerings from my Internet.

Probably not. I was going to do something similar to get interweb to my garage. I have a wireless modem/router in the house, and I have a spare wireless router. I looked into whether I could just setup the spare router as a wireless link and the answer I got was "It can be done, all the circuitry is there, but the software in the wireless router isn't set up to do that." Turns out I would need to find the proper software and somehow get the router to work with that software. I ended up running a direct burial Cat-5 out to the garage, so I didn't look into it any further. If you don't have a range issue, there are network adapters that should do what you want.

thanks for the replies and I apologize for not giving addition info..the tv is not a smart one [ and neither am I ] it is just a Samsung hdtv..I have the modem from the pc set up for telephone also as a wireless modem.. but as you say, I may give up on that idea and run a cable to another room in the house..

f you are using telephone line for internet service, it will not be enough bandwidth to watch movies.

Not necessarily. I am on DSL. I can stream movies from Netflix without a hitch.

would differentiate "telephone"/POTS from DSL, myself. You wouldn't?

DSL over telephone line streams video well for me. I have 5 or 7 meg speed.

But it is a concern, under 2 would be difficult to get good service.

The DSL is still carried on the 2 conductor buried telephone cable.

A "Roku" device will do just what you want. Or an Amazon "Firestick". Just do a Google search.
